- Follow the Live Ticker here at 8 pm
Friday, 14/12/12
20:00 The Chair aka President Léonie opens the session with Nada to her right and Max as our guest rapporteur to her left. Welcome everybody!
20:02 Suprise! The Conference of the Parties (COP) starts with a film about this weekend’s issue: Climate Change as a global challenge … no wait, it’s a newscast! Will there be a new time freeze?
Looks like the delegates are facing a special challenge this time:)
20:03 … Hold on … is that the “28Weeks Later”- soundtrack??!
20:20 Léo sets the time freeze. Some last words from our friend and role model Kofi Annan: “To live is to choose. But to choose well, you must know who you are and what you stand for, where you want to go and why you want to get there” – Bring on the conference!
20:50 There are great global issues to be discussed but it seems like the committee already struggles with the agreement on a generally accepted speaker’s time…?
20:53 Big “Steufzer” from the front row – keep calm Uncle Sam;)
21:26 Suspension of the Meeting until tomorrow morning 9 am.
Saturday, 15/12/12
09:00 Back into session the Dais makes a cut to the time freeze and calls upon a Minute of Silent Prayer for the victims of yesterday’s ramapage in an elementary school in central Connecticut. Our thoughts are with the victims.
09:01 Today starts with speeches of Tuvalu, India and Australia. By the way, fingers crossed for all absent GreiMUN staff members and participants who are having their exams today. Good Luck with that!!
09:06 Note to the Dais: “Honorable Chair, the delegate of the USA is sorry that his jacket got lost. An associate will bring it as soon as possible. Thank you and best regards. The USA”
10:58 China introduces an alternative measurement as a possible compromise on Topic I (The Year 1990 as a Base of Greenhouse Gas Emission Measurement) – Let’s get per-capita.
12:31 “Here we go again on our own. Going down the only road we’ve ever know…” Back in formal session
- applause to the extraordinary motivated staff members in the back
12:45 USA moves to suspend the meeting for 1 h 30 for the purpose of having informal caucus and lynch… uhm lunch of course
14:47 The Chair is looking forward to receive first working papers during the next informal caucus.
14:50 What a show! Typically American…
17:33 Two different working papers have been handed in already. Also, there is the rumour of bets whether we will ever start with another of the four agenda topics this weekend.
17:54 Honorable staff member Henri kindly calls attention to honorable staff member Robert that he has “vollgeshmuddered” his trousers.
Facing Todays Challenges – 1st World Problems
20:32 We’re getting there. Not long until both draft resolutions will be introduced…
20:51 Adjournment, Closure of debate, suspension, closure…. What is going on??
20:55 The body votes for a closure of debate and moves on to the next topic. The Chair kindly asks all delegates to pronounce “Brazil” as “Brazil” and not BRUXELLES.
21:01 Some final remarks before the session ends for today. Léo announces that all the alcohol for tomorrow’s party should be handed to the staff which will take good care of it. Meeting ends under laughter.
Sunday, 16/12/12
09:00 Chairwoman Marthe opens the session. Coming up: An evaluation of Clean Development Mechanisms
10:35 dobadoo dobadoo once again it’s Tuvalu… The staff is noting with approval that all delegates are very committed to keep the speaker’s list running.
10:38 Yellow card for the delegate of Tuvalu: The Chair does not accept any more witless motions to increase the speaker’s time.
12:18 “The delegation of India hopes that nuclear energy can also be part of a working paper (…) because nuclear power means no greenhouse gas emissions.” YOU DON’T SAY.
13:46 Lars’ reaction when reading the first drafts: “The first I was afraid, I was petrified..” ♪ ♫
15:50 +++Breaking news: France condemned the use of nuclear power in a working paper+++
17:43 Brazil: “Every member state is kindly invaded…” What a nice way to pronounce an invitation. Just like your parents always told you: Politeness will get you anywhere…
19:47 Close to voting procedure
19:53 The Chair decides that it’s time for another suspension…
20:18 Not so close to voting procedure
21:11 Pretty close to voting procedure
- Finally, the committee will vote upon all draft resolutions of this weekend’s conference -
21:32 With 11:5 draft resolution I/1 becomes a resolution, clapping is in order; draft no.I/2 misses this upgrade: 4 votes in favour, 9 against, 3 abstentions. Aaand it’s gone…
21:37 It’s II/1′s turn now. France moves for Adaption by acclamation, Russia objects and rises for Clause-by-Clause-vote. It’s gonna be a loong night…
21:41 First clause passes, second does as well, third clause passes, same with the fourth. WHY DID THAT TAKE US SO LONG? Congratulations to resolution II/1
21:45 Clear majority for II/2. Well done!
21:51 Here we go II/3 and II/4
22:00 Some action here. Seems like numerous global players are not signing the final protocol. Last attempts to revolt?!? … We’ll keep you updated.
22:03 Okaayy… USA, China, Japan, India, Brazil, … out. This causes more than an embarrassed silence from the Chair. *steufz* would be the striking expression…
22:07 What an awkward transition to the awarding of today’s best delegations.
USA & Canada – Congratulations!!!
Some last words, and then the final motion is entertained: Adjournment of the Meeting until next year. Bring on the GreiMUN Christmas Party *<:-{)
